Valley Junction Farmers Market – West Des Moines, IA

IMG_9124

Tonight, one of my best friends and I went to the farmer’s market. This is the first time I’ve gotten to go this year! Valley Junction, which is located in West Des Moines, has their Farmer’s Market every Thursday from 6:00-9:00 pm. They have all the components of a regular farmer’s market plus live music every week! This is a little smaller than the big Des Moines Farmer’s Market that happens every Saturday, but it’s a lot closer to my home and just as fun.

No one goes to the farmer’s market without eating.

Here’s what I ate:

  • Toffee Caramel Apple
    • Made by Garden of Eatin Apples (http://www.gardenofeatinapples.com/) – SO DELICIOUS. They’re based out of Waukee, IA, which is amazingly close to where I live.
    • My favorite thing about Garden of Eatin Apples is that they’ll slice the apple up for you on the spot. That way, I’m not walking around with chocolate, cararmel, etc. all over my face. Also, the apple isn’t brown since she doesn’t slice it until you buy it!
    • You can get a whole apple or a sliced apple for $5.00 🙂 Here are the flavors I’ve tried:
      • Toffee (What I had tonight!)
        • Caramel, Heath toffee bits, milk chocolate drizzle
      • Dark Chocolate Sea Salt
        • Caramel, dark chocolate, sea salt
      • Caramel Apple
    • They have other flavors, and they do specialty orders! If you’re in the area, check them out. I’m all about supporting local businesses.
  • Chocolate truffles
    • Boy, did I indulge at this stop on the farmer’s market trek. Here’s what I had:
      • Big Wig Truffle
        • Peanut butter GALORE. This was literally a complete peanut butter center dipped in chocolate. So rich and delicious. I’m a peanut butter freak.
      • Mint Truffle
        • Need I say more?
      • Salt water taffy
        • My all time favorite candy. I got a variety of flavors!
    • This cute little shop is called Nan’s Nummies, and only the sweetest people work there! Check them out here:
  • Bacon Jam Burger
    • I actually tried this last year, but I had to go back for more this year. I love anything with arugula lettuce.
    • What’s on it?
      • Locally sourced beef
      • Arugula
      • Bacon jam (YUM)
      • Pickles (which I skip)
      • Pepper jack cheese
    • You can find this delectable item at Gastro Grub in Des Moines, IA. I got it at their food truck that’s always at the Valley Junction Farmer’s Market 🙂
  • Then I had a water.

Some nights, I indulge. But I still rock my Beachbody gear, loud & proud. Check out my Instagram account – https://www.instagram.com/lucky_butterflies_fitness/.
