Easter Weekend

Hey guys!

This has been such a busy weekend! I honestly woke up Saturday morning thinking it was Sunday. How happy was I to realize it was still Saturday?! Unbelievably happy! Yet here it is, almost 11:00 pm Sunday night, and I’m still up getting myself ready for the week. Laundry, meal prep, dishes… The weekly prep list is truly endless.

Friday was the most stressful day [at work] that I’ve had in as long as I can remember. I knew I had dinner plans immediately after work, so I stayed there as long as I could to calm myself down. You know those days when you’re already as irritated as humanly possible, and then an email comes through that really sets you off? (I’m so frustrated just thinking about it that I just spilled boiling water all over my hand while attempting to make hot tea.) All I will say is this: I don’t care who you are, who you work for, or how much money you make – you will not walk all the fuck over me like I’m nothing. No, no, no. I wasn’t raised that way. I also work my ass off every day of the damn week, and I refuse to be “rewarded” with bitchy commentary on my work.

Anyway, I went straight to the bar after work. By bar, I really mean sushi restaurant… But I went in early for the beer because, fuck, I was fuming that day.

I frequent Mandarin Grill & Sushi Bar [West Des Moines, IA]. The service is stellar, the food is exceptional, and it’s just about as reasonably priced as any other sushi bar. One spider roll, two California rolls, a spicy tuna roll, a plate of fried calamari, and one Blue Moon later, I felt much better.

I know what you’re thinking. Could I have eaten all of that by myself? Probably. Did I? Nope! I had help.

Saturday was much calmer. The weather was amazing.

Amazing enough, in fact, for a baseball game!

This guy (not the one in the bear costume) invited me out with him, his parents, his boss, and a couple of coworkers. I have never seen Principal Park so empty on a game day. I guess the forecast and the fact that it was Easter weekend played a huge part in the ticket sales for this game.

We were, unfortunately, surrounded by two large groups of screaming children. My exact comment: “Who brought the fucking daycare?” The real point of this story is actually not my deep dislike for children. I’m sure I’ll get into that on another day when it’s more relevant. (They’re cute, but give them a Popsicle and shut them up.) The real point of this story is how much I appreciate someone who wants a picture with Cubbie Bear just because. I think I spent too many years surrounded by people who wouldn’t even smile for a fucking photo with me. I’m going out on a rant, and I’m about to reel myself back in. Before I do, I just want to say that someone who documents experiences because they want the pictures to look back on, is a lot more pleasant than a person who flies through life trying to be cooler than you.

Guess what? It’s not cool to be a jackass. It’s also not cool to hang out with jackasses. I’m glad I learned that lesson!

Today, of course, is Easter! My favorite holiday… only because it’s in the Spring, and I was a spring baby.

Honestly, how great are Snapchat filters?

I ate too much, napped, did some online shopping, hung out with my family (felines included); and I hope everyone else got to do the same.

After that busy day of stuffing my face and being a total lazy-ass, I went on a long walk with my other half. We stumbled across the coolest used-to-be schoolhouse. Well, he already knew it was there; I didn’t. I’m a sucker for that shit. I was mostly hoping it was haunted.

Now, I’m sitting at my kitchen island, drinking Sleepy Time tea from a mug that says “You’ve cat to be kitten me right meow,” (because why the hell not?), and listening to Rosie by John Mayer. I’m fucking obsessed with this song. Please go listen.

Now Playing: The Search for Everything

“I can feel love the I want, I can feel the love I need
But it’s never gonna come the way I am
Could I change it if I wanted, can I rise above the flood?
Will it wash out in the water, or is it always in the blood?”

Good night, all!
